Should I move my backups because of GDPR?

$

I am working on getting my site GDPR compliant, and it just occurred to me that all my customer contact info is in the backups that I have saved with UpdraftPlus, which is stored currently on Google Drive…. I did a search to see how secure and private Google Drive is and the answer is it is secure but not private. This in an article specifically related to GDPR.

So I am trying to sort out if I start saving my UpdraftPlus backups somewhere else? I could just save them to my own harddrive, it wouldn’t be a huge deal…I’m just wondering if that’s something that I need to do and if others who know more about this than me could help me sort this out?

Because technically speaking, if Google has access to all my files, and privacy is an issue….they could access all the info within my files….which I believe means that the contact info of all my customers that is contained within those backups is available to Google via my Google Drive? I think?? I just want to make sure I’m doing what I should be doing to be secure. It isn’t a difficult thing for me to move where I back these up…just want to know if it’s a good idea?

Failed to connect to FTP Server

I have used this plugin on a lot of sites. Works great.

For some reason on this new site, I get this error “Failed to connect to FTP Server ftp1.namesco.net:21”

I know I have the FTP details correct as they work when i use FileZilla and re-entered them to make sure i have added them correctly.

There is a ftp whitelist on the server, which i have added my ip address.

I have ticked FTPS(SSL) as well as the normal one. No luck.

I have also left the remote path blank, as well as trying adding here too.

Can’t work out why. Not much out there on Google and did not see anyone else on the Forum mentioning about the same issue/solution.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Hello,
I use my NAS to backup my blog and when I looked at my backup file I had the surprise to discover that it was about 100Gb…
I set up UpdraftPlus to keep only 3 backups… but it seems that it kept some (but not all) the backup since I started to backup on my NAS8 month ago…
Why those backups are not deleted automatically ? Manuel deletion is a pain in the ass…

Hello Support,
I was updating the plugin, and got the message that the Updraft plus update failed. Should I uninstall the plugin and reinstall?

Here’s a few lines from the error message:

Email delivery error: ‘from’ parameter is missing

The “WP Mail SMTP” plugin rejects the the “UpdraftPlus” plugin’s attempts to send an email because of the missing “FROM” header. The author of the “WP Mail SMTP” plugin says,”some plugin (or snippet of code) is sending an email without identifying a FROM email header (which indicated who is the sender of the email). Without this information Mailgun API can’t send an email and returns an error, that WP Mail SMTP plugin displays in admin area” (see https://wordpress.org/support/topic/delivery-error-from-parameter-is-missing/ ). Using the “WP Mail Logging” plugin I traced the missing “FROM” field to the “UpdraftPlus” plugin.

Now where should this conflict be fixed: on the UpdraftPlus side or on the WP Mail SMTP side?

Updraft plus polling admin-ajax (heartbeat)

Hi David,
I did see this issue in another topic and there you answered that UpDraft only thoes this polling on the status tab.
But your answer doesn’t reflect what I’m experiencing with a customers website.

When I have the plugins page open.it seems UpdraftPLus is polling admin-ajax every 15 seconds.

I’ve disabled the heartbeat API in my functions.php, because the website was simply timing out all the time.

So I was kinda surprised to see admin-ajax still being called every 15 sec.

Maybe you should look into this because I’m not very happy with this behavior.
There seem to be a lot of people having issues with the heartbeat API and admin-ajax. Some of them might be UpdraftPLus users.

I’ve included a screenprint from the chrome developer tool.

Looking forward to your reply,
Kindest regards,
Robert

Google Audit flags jQuery@1.12.4 in UpdraftPlus as security risk

I ran a Google Audit on honokeana.net. (Chrome – View – Developer – Developer Tools – Audit)

Google identifies jQuery@1.12.4 in my library as a security risk. My search finds that it is called for by updraftplus-admin.js in this command:
form_data = JSON.stringify({
// Indicate the last time the format changed – i.e. do not update this unless there is a format change
version: ‘1.12.40’,

According to:
https://snyk.io/vuln/npm:jquery
the current 3.3.1 version of jQuery should be used to avoid this risk.
Perhaps UpdraftPlus needs an update to fix this?

Error message, but backups are occurring?

Hello, a little confused, hoping someone can explain what this error message means?

“Warning: The scheduler is disabled in your WordPress install, via the DISABLE_WP_CRON setting. No backups can run (even “Backup Now”) unless either you have set up a facility to call the scheduler manually, or until it is enabled.”
Error screenshot

The weird part is the backups are clearly occurring, and I’ve even used them. Am I missing something important?

Thanks for any help:D

Hello,

I’ve just installed Updraftplus and so far I’m unable to create any backup due to permission issues.

I read the article you refer in Smashing Magazine from May, 2014 where files (664) and folders (755) have correct permissions and I still get that error.

Could it be possible for me to manually create the needed folder to help the plugin? If that’s possible, can you tell the the route and folder name please? Or if there’s another option? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Regards!

Restore failed – log file shows nothing relevant

Hello,

Sorry I cannot share the page I need help with, but I can share the log file. The restore failed due to some permissions missing – but the website looks and is completely ok. I am not sure how to remedy this and the files that could not be uploaded do not seem relevant but still I am not sure that the log file shows every single file that was not uploaded or partially uploaded. Also can I do a checkup for corrupted files. Or maybe just restore again once the permissions are set up properly? Please advise.

Updraft Plus backup always fails unless DB only

Backup always fails unless I choose to backup database only. A soon as I check ” Include any files in the backup” or any single one of the include files options, the backup just runs and then stops without notice. At this point I see no reason to shell out for the paid version if it’s just not going to work.

Login with WP-Password doesn’t work any more after restore

Hi,
I restored database and themes some days ago, the backup was from July 5. One second after the success message WordPress told me that my session has ended and invited to a new login (!?). I tried, but it didn’t work. Since then the wordpress-password does not work any more. I deleted Cookies and tried it with different browser, but no way.

July 7 I had to change database password and hosting customer PW, but I definitely did not change the WordPress PW and I could login without any problems until the restore some days ago.

I looked into phpMyAdmin in order to see what WP-PW is saved in wp-users, but unfortunately the PW is there only readable in any scrambled way (“hash”?).

Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

I have updraft plus setup to send backups to AWS 3. They have stopped going there and now I see this.
Backup directory specified exists, but is not writable.Follow this link to attempt to create the directory and set the permissions, or, to reset this option click here. If that is unsuccessful check the permissions on your server or change it to another directory that is writable by your web server process.

I am confused. I tested the S3 settings and it says they are fine. Can you tell me what is happening here?
Thanks so much!

Can’t backup to google Drive

I’ve been using updraftplus for a long time. Few days ago, i decided to reinstall wp and after setup, I installed updraft and connected to google drive. I tried to perform a manual backup and was successful but when it got to the part where it uploads to drive, I get an error like ” can’t connect to parent folder 443 api.google.com ” or something like that.

I do use wordfence and I’ve been using wordfence for 2 years without any issue even with extended protection feature enabled.

Please help
