I am working on getting my site GDPR compliant, and it just occurred to me that all my customer contact info is in the backups that I have saved with UpdraftPlus, which is stored currently on Google Drive…. I did a search to see how secure and private Google Drive is and the answer is it is secure but not private. This in an article specifically related to GDPR.
So I am trying to sort out if I start saving my UpdraftPlus backups somewhere else? I could just save them to my own harddrive, it wouldn’t be a huge deal…I’m just wondering if that’s something that I need to do and if others who know more about this than me could help me sort this out?
Because technically speaking, if Google has access to all my files, and privacy is an issue….they could access all the info within my files….which I believe means that the contact info of all my customers that is contained within those backups is available to Google via my Google Drive? I think?? I just want to make sure I’m doing what I should be doing to be secure. It isn’t a difficult thing for me to move where I back these up…just want to know if it’s a good idea?
