Backups vanished

I have a problem site I am trying to restore a backup from yesterday. I have updraft set to backup to google drive. Both backups were done manually though I have “keep 2 scheduled (daily) backups” set fwiw.

I restored uploads but it didn’t fix my missing media then went back to restore the database. Now it seems yesterdays has vanished and it is showing me available backups back to before I started the site. afaics it listing 11 backups back to May when I only created this site two weeks ago. It seems to be showing all the backups I have stored on google drive for other sites. This is not good.

For some time now, maybe a month or two, I have been getting reports from maldet from my server (dedicated server, WHM/cPanel, CENTOS 7.6, everything up to date) to the effect that maldet has found a suspicious file.

There are several domains on this server and it only seems to be happening on one of the domains, so initially I assumed it was a problem with that domain.

However, multiple scans on the domain with two different malware scanners have never found any malware except the Updraft backup file. No malware in the public space or the entire account space, just in the /wp-content/updraft/backup_2019-08-23-0024_{account name}-db.gz file. I had tech support also double check and they found nothing flagged except the Updraft backup. VirusTotal finds nothing on the domain (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url).

maldet is identifying this file hit list: {YARA}eval_post : /home/{account name}/public_html/wp-content/updraft/backup_2019-08-23-0024_{account name}_43c3635f0104-db.gz and the specific file is YARA.eval_post.UNOFFICIAL

It is basically happening with every backup. Occasionally, it skips a day but not often.

Now I know this has been reported as a false positive for maldet and clamav in the past (if clamav is installed, maldet will use the clamav scanner engine) but that doesn’t address the issue of:

1. why does it only flag the Updraft backup file? what about that backup file is triggering maldet to flag it?

2. I have 16+ domains/accounts on this server. Why is it only flagging one account?

Any suggestions?

“Problems with extra white-space” and Dropbox

Hi there! I am getting the message “Problems with extra white-space”. I read the guide, but still don’t quite understand it, sorry…
I have it set to send the backup directly to Dropbox – is that going to be affected by the bug?
Can someone explain this a bit clearer:
“After downloading from cloud storage to your web server within the UpdraftPlus page, then instead of downloading from there to your computer, instead just log into your FTP account, and look in wp-content/updraft (or, if you changed the default, wherever you configured to store your backups).”
What is the “cloud storage” here – is this the Updraft cloud? When do I download to my server? Sorry, once again – newbie…
Thanks!

Updating to php 7

WordPress is complaining at me that I need to update my server to php 7. The dashboard suggests that I use a plugin called “PHP Compatibility Checker” to determine whether or not other plugins will work when I update my server to use the newer version of php.

After running their plugin, your plugin comes back with “Unknown” because of how big the plugin is.

So, I thought I’d check with you to see if your plugin was currently compatible with php 7, and if not, when that upgrade might be slated for developement.

Thanks.

I use updraft to move websites between dev sites and their live domain very regularly as I have done for years. I do not have the migrator tool as I do not need it. I manage to complete the migration using a find/replace tool for the DB. I have done this for years now. As of today, an migration I try instantly fails with this error…

‘Error message: Copying this entity failed.
Restore failed…’

Why is this suddenly occurring?

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this admin page.

Reason: The “Settings → UpdraftPlus Backups” menu item is disabled for the “administrator” role.

Any idea why this would happen? What role is needed for this access?

Hello,
my english is bad. Please for understanding.
For some time: the backup does not go to the end. And always wants to start over.
Get the following text in the log file:

2806.581 (7) There were errors in the uploads, so the ‘resume’ event is remaining scheduled
2806.581 (7) Die Sicherung wurde nicht beendet; eine Wiederaufnahme ist geplant

It used to work well.
What can be the problem?
Thanks for your help

I have reset settings, disabled plugins, and checked for firewalls and have not had any luck.

Hello
I need a restoration of the file: wp-admin.php that is at the root of my WordPress blog “https://dev.polycantus.fr”. My hosting company helps me: OK. But I am surprised because I look at the backups made by updraftplus: I find the directories at the root of the blog (such themes, contents etc…) and their contents in zip files, but I do not find the files that are at the root of the blog like wp-admin.php, wp-login.php, .htaccess etc.. Can you tell me where these files are saved ? Is there an option to be activated for that ? Regards

Backup Not Running As Before Migration

Dear Support,

Since SiteGround migrated our site from the .NET development version to .ORG production use on 2019-08-19 …I have 3 problems that did not have before this migration:

1. “Backup Now” ran all night and has not completed.

2. “Scheduling” doesn’t run at all.

3. “Remote” saving to Google Drive used to work too, but I turned that load off for now.

This is my very first website, so I am a newbie. Plus I’m away and not able to access my computer, so supporting this has been very difficult and stressful.

I the .NET version, I had followed previous online instructions to replace wp_cron with a real cron job and that seemed to work.

I do have a couple of SiteHealth warnings, but have not been able to resolve them. But again, Updraft worked great in spite of them.

I’m using:

WordPress Version 5.2.2
Server architecture Linux 3.12.18-clouder0 x86_64
Web server Apache
PHP version 7.1.30 (Supports 64bit values)

Below is a link to the log file:

Any help would be very greatly appreciated!

Hello Everyone,

I’ve recently taken over a web site with existing plug-ins installed.
The site has UpdraftPlus/Backup/Restore version 2.16.16.0 on it.

I’m not sure if this was a paid version or all of it’s capabilities yet.

(The prior web person has not provided details on how he installed it.
It could have been packaged in with a paid Theme – not sure)

Does anyone know if version 2.16.16.0 is the free version?

I’m obviously just getting my bearings with this, so I appreciate your understanding/patience 🙂

Thanks,
Adam

Restore uploads not working via updraft plus backup

Hi, I hope someone can help me please.

A client’s website has had some media items and pages deleted at random (likely user error) so I am trying to restore the uploads from their UpDraft Plus backup.

When I tried this, it said that the restore could not be completed and gave the following errors (bracketed items are redacted for client security):

Move (file name) -> (updraft “-old” file name) failed. Destination directory (insert UID / GID numbers). Effective / real user ID’s of the current process (insert numbers) – this error is listed x1 time for 1 item

Delete (file name) -> (updraft “-old” file name) failed. Destination directory (insert UID / GID numbers). Effective / real user ID’s of the current process (insert numbers) – this error is listed x8 times for 8 items

Error message: Could not move the files into place. Check your file permissions. – more files listed under here too.

Is this something I need to contact the host for? If possible we would like to keep the host out of it as much as we can as they charge extra for any help we request (we are moving to a new host soon for this reason). Can I do anything to change the file permissions / get it to work without FTP / database access?

Thanks in advance for your time! 🙂
